Soft Starts
Soft starts are used to protect AC electric motors, their power supply and connected loads
Soft starts are used to protect AC electric motors, their power supply and connected loads against electrical, mechanical and thermal stress induced damage caused by large inrush of current to the motor at start-up. It limits this initial inrush of current, providing a gentle ramp up to full speed – they are typically used only at start-up but they can be used during the operation. They can also be applied during stopping, e.g. to prevent water hammer effects. Ramping up the initial voltage to the motor produces this gradual start.
